Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office filed a lawsuit against four people, including Austrian journalist Max Zirngast, with the allegation of “membership to TKP/Kıvılcım terrorist organization.” In the indictment, accepted by Ankara 26th Assize Court, the Prosecutor’s Office indicated that “actions and methods involving violence and threat” could not be identified to be shown as basis for the accusation on armed terrorist organization membership. The indictment further stated that the work of the suspects on women’s rights and children’s education are not unlawful, instead humanitarian, therefore must be supported and praised by the government. However, it was stated that those works and activities were conducted within the activities of an illegal organization, therefore are illegal and must be penalized.
Austrian journalist Max Zirngast and Social Freedom Party Founding Assembly members Mithatcan Türetken and Hatice Göz, who were arrested on September 21st within the file, were released with travel ban upon the acceptance of the indictment. The first hearing of the lawsuit will be held on April 11, 2019.
